Ferrari Sedan?

Did anyone else think the Maserati Quattroporte more resembled a Buick than a Maserati when it first debuted? Oh, come on - the three ports on the side, the same rear wheel shoulder, the less than imposing wrap-around headlights, the big mouth grille...
I will admit the Quattroporte has a great stance and proportion which looks nothing like a Buick - it just didn't seem to do it for me at first.

Considering the Quattroporte is basically a Ferrari anyways, I got to thinking. If I were to customize it minimally, what could I do to it to make it look like a Ferrari sedan instead. Yes, I put aside the fact that Ferrari probably shouldn't have a sedan anyways - except for the Pininfarina one-offs for the Sultan of Brunei of course!

So back to my customization - here's what I thought:

1. I could take the front bumper off and add a more Ferrari like grille. But, then I noticed the one on there looks kinda Ferrari already - except for the center detail which is the only thing that makes it a Maserati. It's got a big happy grille, a couple of side scoops - not bad. Ok, maybe I'll make the side scoops a bit bigger - make it seem like there's something under that hood.

2. It needs some Ferrari head lights. I thought I'd add some Enzo style ones and continue the shoulder surface right through the nose. Again, I'm thinking minimal Bondo!

3. Next, it of course needs a bigger power bulge on the hood. Not too big - hmm, kinda like the 599. Done!

4. Last for the front end, a couple of details: the Ferrari logo in the grille and on the nose and a small vent ahead of the front door.

Now to the back!

5. I could take off the back bumper and add a high speed Venturi. So I looked around and saw that the 599 had a fairly tame one that might work for a sedan.

6. Of course there's nothing cool about those rear tail lights - so let's change those out to the single 599 style. Hmm, that 599 is becoming a good donor.

7. Lastly, another logo on the trunk face and we're off to Maranello!

Ok, it could have been red but this was a quick exercise and the donor photo was black - and it does look good in black. I also skipped the wheels because it has nice wheels though not the necessary 5 spoke ones for a Ferrari.

So that's it! Have a happy Monday...
