Mercedes F700 Update

So I've fixed or altered many of the issues of which I was referring to in the front and side view. You can compare the two and I think you'll agree, the altered one is much cleaner, more dynamic and impressive - even though the theme remains the same.

These include:
1. Larger wheels and tires - This gives the car a much improved stance and fills out those wheel wells which were badly overshadowed by the fenders and the transparent wheel cover. It was also necessary to rotate the whole car counterclockwise so that it sits better on the larger wheels and to get the shadow working better with the bottom of the car.
2. Angled Rocker Panel - The original was straight across which makes it very stagnant. I angled the rocker panel down at the front giving it a more dynamic and directional flair.
3. Belt Line: I altered the belt line shape to be straighter at the front and gave it some additional tension in the middle. It plays better off the bottom of the DLO which is also more dynamic now.
4. DLO (Day Light Opening) - I raised the Belt Line and the bottom edge of the DLO to give some more tension with the Belt Line. It's also shorter toward the rear giving a more substantial C-Pillar which helps the rear's perceived weight. It also prevents the rear point of the DLO from heading back down - a similar problem with the R-Class.
5. Rear end - The original's rear was lacking power and equality to the front's long hood and large fenders. I raised the rear deck (or what you can see of it) and brought the rear light up a bit more and flattened it out relating it more to the new belt line highlight.
6. Hood - I flattened out the hood a bit by bringing the grille up. The original's grille was too low which accentuated the "Banana" character of the whole car.
7. Grille - I brought the grille up at it's current size. This straightens and lengthens the hood visually giving it a bit more relevance to it's ancestors while making the car more majestic and powerful.
8. Headlights - Lastly, I raised the headlight up slightly but took a quarter or so of the light off the bottom. This relates better to the new grille's height and pushes the front's "head up".

I hope you enjoy the comparison and I'll tackle the rear next.

Thanks, Glenn. It's interesting because in the development of the car they had a body colored one that actually looked good. It really gave it that classic look with the whole rear wheel covered. For some reason they decided to go with the clear one...maybe a compromise?

Nice. Maybe they should start hiring members on this blog to look at their designs with a fresh eye. Sort of a designer focus group:)

Nice styling enhancement...looks better now.

Definitely one ugly car though, considering people need to pay lots of money for unattractiveness.

What's with Mercedes? Needing new designers or what?

Good job commissioner, keep writing the tickets out.

Do I need to spell it any other way?
I can design something better with my left hand...I'll reserve my right
hand for good designs.

Geez...... that original design is hideous! And not only is the design bad, it looks like a ten year old Mark VII with an air suspension problem......

nice SAVE! good job Design Police! :)
