Let's not beat a dead Aztek
We've been using the Pontiac Aztek as the butt of all car design jokes for too long. It's had enough. By the way, I heard the sketches were cool! Which brings me to my point - a sketch and a final design are two totally different things. You can get a cool car from a lousy sketch as well as a lousy car from a cool sketch. There are many factors that contribute to whether or not a car will come out looking the way the designer(s) wants it to, and sometimes, it's just not meant to be. I mean, look at the Aztek concept pictured above. The show car should be the purest form of the concept yet it remains fussy and over done.

Actually, looking back at the Aztek, I don`t think it`s so bad. In the last several years, the trend in car design is that UGLY and Aggresive is in. The Aztek proportion now resembles of alot of the new CUVs coming out these days. Overall, I think the Aztek was ahead of its time and just needs some refinement of the graphics (window lines). Especially the sagging rear window line you see in the straight rear view.
Yes, the ugly thing is "IN" right now. That's more than apparent by the Volvo XC60 concept for example. I still don't know why "UGLY" should be "IN". are we that tired of "Beautiful" or "Refined"? I also agree that with some tweaking, the Aztek could've been a much better looking and selling vehicle. Don't forget it's cousin though, the Buick Rendezvous - it wasn't all that pretty either. So the question remains - do we blame it on the package and the GM management or was it really "just ahead of it's time"? Nice start to the dialogue fellas!
